Citizen Emergency Response Training
NOTICE: CERT Class for the week of June 4th, 6th and 7th has been cancelled
As of 2012 over 640,000 citizens live in El Paso County. Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. Factors such as number of victims, communication failures and road blockages will prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment’s notice through 911. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs.
As a county, we want to be prepared to face any situation that might affect our way of life. The events of September 11, 2001, the Ellicott tornado that same year, the blizzards of the 2006/2007 holiday season, the Waldo Canyon Fire in 2012, and the floods and Black Forest Fire in 2013 demonstrate how important it is for us to prepare to take care of ourselves, our family and neighbors.
The Emergency Services Division offers CERT classes to accomplish the goal of enhancing the safety of all El Paso County citizens.
