Fireworks Guidelines

June 25, 2014

The Fourth of July is quickly approaching. With that in mind, the following are guidelines for the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of El Paso County.

The use, sale or possession of any firework not classified as a “permissible” firework is illegal.  Most common fireworks are legal in Colorado, with the exception of those items that fly through the air, explode or shoot flaming balls.

Definitions:

Unlawful fireworks include: Bottle rockets, Firecrackers of any type, Mortars and Roman candles.

Permissible fireworks include: Fountains, Ground spinners, Smoke Bombs, Sparklers and Small cars/tanks with pyrotechnics.

Municipalities within El Paso County such as Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Fountain and Monument have their own fireworks ordinances which govern those jurisdictions.  Citizens are encouraged to become familiar with those ordinances which are applicable to where they are planning their fireworks celebration.

If Fire Restrictions are ordered for El Paso County, all sales and use of fireworks would become unlawful at that time under County Ordinance 02-2.
