Sheriff’s Office Releases Identity of Homicide Victim
On May 3, 2014 at 1:53 p.m., a deputy from the Sheriff's Office was monitoring traffic near Piute Park in Security when an adult male approached the deputy and reported a shooting in the 1100 block of Main Street. Deputies responded to the home and discovered an adult male victim deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Detectives from our Investigations Division gathered information from the crime scene as well as numerous interviews and developed probable cause for the arrest of 59 year old Michael Malory who lives in the home. Mr. Malory was taken into custody during the early morning hours of May 4, 2014 and booked into the Criminal Justice Center for First Degree Murder and is held without bond.
The victim has been identified as 37 year old Daniel Baird of Colorado Springs. An autopsy of Mr. Baird was conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office on May 5, 2014. The cause of death was determined as gunshot wounds and the manner of death homicide.
Although an arrest has been made, this case remains active. To safeguard the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no additional details will be shared at this time.
This is the first homicide in unincorporated El Paso County in 2014.
